Submission Formatting Guidelines

Submission Files Formatting

  • The submission file must be in .doc or .docx format and written in English. If there are parts of the manuscript that are in other languages, we ask that you communicate with the section editor about the possibility of translation notes.
  • APA Style is the preferred citation format. Pedagogical Inquiry and Practice may accept other citation formats, subject to consultation with the Editorial Board. MacEwan Library’s reference guides to documentation styles can be found here.
  • Submissions must be carefully edited and error-free.
  • If it is a multiple-author submission, the manuscript must be carefully reviewed by all authors to guarantee cohesiveness and consistency throughout the manuscript. Prior to submission, the manuscript should be carefully checked and edited by the principal investigator to ensure cohesiveness, consistency, and correctness.
  • For files larger than 128 MB: Upload to Google Drive, create a shareable link to the file, and copy and paste this link into a Word document. Submit this document to provide access to the work. For assistance, email pip@macewan.ca.

Title Page

  • List the title of the work.
  • Provide a subtitle (if applicable).
  • Include an abstract (200-300 words) summarizing the work. The abstract will be published alongside the work if accepted for publication.
  • Provide 3-5 keywords that can be used for indexing purposes.

Body of the Manuscript

Follow the guidelines in the APA Publication Manual (7th edition) for the stylistic conventions of writing.

  • Use double-spaced text.
  • Use a 12-point standard font Times New Roman or Arial font.
  • Italicize text instead of underlining (except for URLs).
  • Use 1-inch margins (i.e., top, bottom, left, right).
  • Apply page numbers in the bottom right corner of the page header.
  • Include section headers, as necessary.
  • Indent paragraphs.
  • Integrate relevant visual aids, figures, tables, and graphs within the body of the manuscript text, where they should appear in a published version (not at the end).
  • Omit personal details within the body of the manuscript.
  • Include brief acknowledgements of persons, institutions, or granting agencies or conflicts of interest, as necessary.

References and Supplemental Material

  • Ensure that all in-text citations are included in the reference list.
  • Make sure that reference links are live and ready to click.
  • Include appendices after the references, where they would be expected in the published version.
